A reproduction of Paper Tapir is printed in ”Southern Accents”, November-December 2001, page 158. The painting appears in an article featuring "Holiday House", Mountain Brook, Alabama.
A reproduction of Token Landscape Series I is included in "Watercolor Bold and Free", by Lawrence C. Goldsmith, A.W.S., Watson-Guptill Publications, New York, New York, 1980. ISBN 0-8230-5654-6. The following text appears under the reproduction on page 54:
"Mills develops his ideas from one painting to the next, seeking in each one to further refine and sharpen his original impressions. `I work in a series,` he says, `because I am too reluctant to let go of a good idea.` The series of which this watercolor is a part was done in the studio, based on memories of landscapes, `the most enduring of which came from my homeland of East Tennessee.` (He now lives in Alabama) Mills feels himself especially gripped by the `chaotic aspects of areas of wilderness.` This comes across in his vigorous brushwork. In contrast to his turbulent passages, other sections are more polished and clarified. He works with many layers of wet-on-dry transparencies, letting loosely knit geometric forms appear. As he put it, an `intentional paradox` results between the natural and geometric forms."
