Statement

Cecily Orr Hulett combines a critical eye for composition and color, a rich store of life experiences and an extraordinary ability to create awardwinning abstract works.

Since 1997, when the Montevallo, Alabama native turned full professional attention to her art, her style has evolved to incorporate bold use of texture and color, and a stream-of consciousness approach to her subjects. She paints intuitively, creating visually engaging, sophisticated canvasses designed to challenge and delight the discerning viewer. Recent works reflect influences of her travels to Mexico and Central America, and of her continuing study with other well-known artists and art instructors. Earlier pieces hold their roots in her formal art education and training at Converse College and the University of Alabama where she graduated with a B.F.A and in studies abroad in Germany.
Her paintings are exhibited in select Southeastern and New England galleries and are included in a growing number of private and corporate collections. She also has been awarded high honors by her peers, most recently taking Best of Show at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Exhibition, sponsored by the Montgomery Art Guild.
Cecily makes her home in Montgomery, Alabama, with her husband Jim. She divides her time between Montgomery, the Gulf Coast and Tennessee, where her children and grandchildren live and provide inspiration.
